Provide a durable, stable, and aesthetically pleasing deck structure
-
Work within London site constraints (e.g. access, neighbour boundaries, drainage, planning)
-
Ensure proper foundation and support to avoid future sagging or rot
-
Integrate drainage, lighting, and finishing touches (e.g. skirting, hidden fixings)
-
Ensure compliance with any local building regs or party wall considerations
Solution & Approach
Our team developed a detailed plan to ensure the decking was not only visually appealing but also strong, durable, and tailored to the unique conditions of the London property
1. Design & Planning
Site survey and measurement, ground / soil inspection
Engineering layout of joists, bearers, support posts, spacing, load calculations
Selection of high-grade, treated softwood decking boards (e.g. C24, pressure-treated)
Detailing for drainage, expansion gaps, ventilation
Design of edging, steps, skirting, and interface with existing hard landscaping
2. Preparation & Foundation
- Ground preparation: leveling, excavation where needed, sub-base (e.g. crushed stone or hardcore)
Installation of concrete pads or adjustable pedestals for support posts
Installation of treated bearers / ledger / joists, checking levels and squareness
Protective membranes or weed barriers beneath deck structure
3. Decking Installation
Fixing decking boards using corrosion-resistant screws or recommended hidden fixings
Spacing allowances, end grain sealing, cut-outs or insets if needed
Installation of edge trims, skirting, fascia boards
Integration of accessories: lighting, railing supports, drainage channels
4. Quality Assurance & Handover
Inspection of alignment, level, fastening integrity
Final sanding or finishing (if required), cleaning
Client walk-through and handover
Guidance on maintenance (cleaning, staining/sealing if necessary)
5. Results & Benefits
A structurally sound, long-lasting deck with excellent finish
Enhanced outdoor living space and property value
Better drainage and ventilation under deck
Visually seamless integration with garden and house
Minimal maintenance compared to alternative solutions
